What is Amygdalin?
Amygdalin is a cyanogenic glycoside derived from the aromatic amino acid phenylalanine. Amygdalin and prunasin are very common among plants of the Rosaceae, particularly the Prunus genus, Poaceae (grasses), Fabaceae (legumes), and in other food plants.
Amygdalin is contained in fruit kernels, such as apricot (8%), peach (6%),bitter almond(5%), and (2.5%).
Health Benefits of Amygdalin
1. Cancer curing agent
Its primary benefit is definitely the cancer cure! Contrary to the harmful side effects of chemotherapy, which most cancer patients' face, use of Amygdalin as an alternative treatment to cancer is relatively safe. Amygdalin helps the body to fight cancer by releasing hydrogen cyanide (HCN) when it comes in contact with the enzyme beta- glucosidase.
2. Controlled blood pressure
Chemically, intake of Amygdalin can help to control blood pressure levels in patients due to the formation of thiocyanate, an important blood pressure lowering agent. Research at National Cancer Institute has found out the benefits of Amygdalin to control blood pressure levels.
3. Pain reliever
Intense pain due to arthritis may be severely lowered by making use of Amygdalin supplements. Intensive research and study conducted in the Mayo clinic has proved its benefits as a pain reliever.
4. Boosts immunity
A scientific study published in the International Journal of Radiation and Biology indicates that Amygdalin can potentially increase the pancreatic enzymes and hence help the body fight harmful agents. Amygdalin consumption increases the white blood cells in the human body and strengthens the body's immune system to make it resistant to cold and flu. Moreover, Amygdalin supports the liver to enhance the body's detoxification.
